Charity Land Disposals
The Orwellian named Office of the Third Sector is consulting on proposals to relax/extend the definition of “Surveyor” in the Charities Act.
Charity Trustees will already know that if an interest in land is to be disposed of they must obtain a report from a qualified surveyor advising on the transaction. The proposal is to extend the definition to include Fellows of the National Association of Estate Agents in addition to members of the RICS or the IAVA so that charities have greater flexibility. It will also have the effect of increasing competition which should bring fees down.
This appears to be a sensible proposal and charities have until 7 June 2010 to respond to the consultation.
