April sees increases in rates for maximum compensation for unfair dismissal, a “week’s pay” as well as an increase in statutory pay for the family leave entitlements. We look at these new rate rises.
From 6th April 2015, the limit on compensation an employment tribunal may award for unfair dismissal increases from £76,574 to £78,335. This new figure only applies where the employee was dismissed on/after 6th April 2015.
A Week’s Pay
A week’s pay applicable for dismissals on/after 6th April 2015 will rise from £464 to £475. A week’s pay is used when calculating statutory redundancy compensation and also the basic award in an unfair dismissal case.
Other April changes
As of 5th April 2015, statutory maternity, adoption, paternity, additional paternity and shared parental pay will increase to £139.58 a week (up from £138.18).
From 6th April 2015, the weekly rate of statutory sick pay will increase to £88.45 (up from £87.55).
Remember to ask payroll to amend these figures to ensure those off on leave receive the correct statutory pay for the correct week.
