Last Thursday Boyes Turner co-hosted a webinar with the British Hospitality Association. John Guthrie, Employment Policy Adviser to the British Hospitality Association and Helen Goss, Employment partner at Boyes Turner, discussed the key issues facing the Leisure & Hospitality industry in 2017.
Brexit remains at the fore in 2017. The Hospitality and Tourism industry accounts for 4.5million jobs in the UK and a conservative estimate suggests that 15% of these jobs are held by EU nationals. This hides significant regional variations; it is thought in London and South East 40-50% is a better guide. In the webinar John discusses the major challenge that Brexit will have on the industry and the steps that the BHA are currently taking to face it.
The webinar also looks at other key challenges such as the ongoing uncertainty around the Apprenticeship Levy; the national living wage; the gender pay gap and the fast approaching reporting obligations; ending with a quick look at the gig economy, and how this is affecting workers’ rights.
