NHBC have announced that they are to launch a new set of Standards for 2016. These will become effective on any build where the foundations are begun on or after 1 January 2016.
The new look standards will be circulated by the NHBC in the coming months and there will be notable changes in both design and content.
The document has been billed as shorter, clearer, and more easily navigable than its current counterpart and it will also be accompanied for the first time by 3D model support.
Former supplemental sections on ‘waterproofing of basements and other below-ground structures’ and ‘mechanical ventilation with heat recovery’ have now been integrated into the core document. Further, the guidance on the following topics has also been enhanced:
- Wall ties and their use at the top of gable walls
- Protective coatings for steelwork
- Liquid-applied roofing membranes
- Fixings for coping stones and
- Standards for ventilation ductworks
