Boyes Turner LLP recently advised the Board of Camp Hopson & Co Limited on the sale of its Department Store and Furniture Centre to Morleys Stores Limited. The sale completed on 3 November 2014. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.

Camp Hopson is a multi-award winning 5th generation family business that has been in the heart of Newbury for nearly 100 years. Jonathan Hopson, CEO of Camp Hopson said “The Department Store and Furniture Centre will benefit hugely from being part of a bigger independent Department store group given the skills, expertise and buying power that Morley Group bring.”

Rachel Turner (Corporate Partner) led a multi-discipline team of lawyers from Boyes Turner, comprising Sophie Payne (Corporate), Mark Appleton (Property), Rachel Duncan (Property) and Helen Goss (Employment).

Rachel Turner said “We were delighted to have been chosen to act as legal advisers on this transaction. We are proud of our strength and depth in retail advisory work and were always acutely aware that the nature of a 5th generation family retail business, particularly one that is a significant employer in its local area, would require the delivery of commercial legal advice in a sensitive way. I believe we have developed a close and effective working relationship with Jonathan Hopson and his colleagues on the board and we look forward to working with Camp Hopson in the future in relation to its retained Funerals and Removals businesses”.

Jonathan Hopson (CEO of Camp Hopson) said: “Rachel Fitzpatrick and the team at Boyes Turner adopted a professional and diligent approach throughout this transaction and the Camp Hopson board welcomed their proactive and pragmatic style of working.”

Bryan Bletso (Corporate Partner) and Jane Havergal (Property Partner) of Thomas Eggar advised Morleys Stores Limited.
