It has been a busy few months for our HR Training Academy. Read on to hear what others are training their people on and what events you missed!

Employment and Tech Conference

In September we held our London Conference. This year, we focused on making work work in the 21st Century, with a particular focus on the technology sector. Discussion topics included: flexible and agile working, family friendly rights and the impact of generational diversity on our future workforces. We were thrilled to be joined by Giles Derrington, techUK’s Head of Policy: Brexit, International and Economics, and Bertie van Wyk, Insight Manager from Herman Miller. Both speakers brought the topics of agility, social ergonomics and how to create change ready workforces to life.

The Conference also saw the launch of our latest Technology Report – Tech be Nimble, Tech be Quick, Tech Don’t Forget the Legal Bit. For a copy of the Report click here.

Mock Employment Tribunal

We followed up our Conference with a thoroughly enjoyable and thought provoking Mock Employment Tribunal event held at our Reading offices.  Darren Smith from our Training Team and Barristers from 3PB discussed employment tribunal procedure and pitfalls in the morning, before bringing the Tribunal to life with a mock hearing – complete with witnesses and cross examination!  Our audience was mainly HR, who shared how important it is for their managers to understand the implications of what they write and what they say. It really was a great event and our thanks goes to 3PB and all our delegates for asking such great questions!

If you want to find out more about running this event for your managers then please get in touch. With employment tribunal claims on the rise, this is a training opportunity not to be missed!

Future training events

Although thoughts are turning to year-end, our training calendar is still full! We have webinars in November and December and a Business Immigration event on 28th November focusing on retaining talent post Brexit. Details of our training workshops and webinars are on our website.

Training is Important, Training Does Work

As we shift our HR attention to 2019, we must also factor in the need to train our people. In the disputes we hear about, if only the manager had had some knowledge about what to do in a given situation, often problems can be dealt with at an early stage. Employment training be it legally based or soft skills, is a great way to raise the profile of employee engagement or management issues, instil in your managers the confidence to deal with issues and also prevent issues from escalating. It is also a way to get your managers talking and engaging, away from their desks in a space where they can learn. Claims are on the rise and prevention is better than cure.

To discuss training, where to start, what to include and to put together a training programme, please speak to me or my colleagues.

Consistent with our policy when giving comment and advice on a non-specific basis, we cannot assume legal responsibility for the accuracy of any particular statement. In the case of specific problems we recommend that professional advice be sought.
