Training Times: May and June 2018
03 July 2018

May and June have been busy months for our Training Team. Hear about the courses we have been running, what training opportunities are coming up – including our not to be missed Mock Employment Tribunal - and what other employers are training their people in.

May and June 2018

We estimate that we have trained well over 100 HR professionals and business managers over May and June! This is a staggering figure but it shows that training is becoming more of a feature on the HR agenda. We have been running a diverse number of courses in a wide format giving HR professionals, managers and people leaders the chance to undertake training in the way that meets their needs and at times which suit their working day.  Let’s look back on a busy few months.

May Conference – Inclusivity and Diversity in the 21st Century

What an incredibly informative, entertaining, personal and enlightening event!  Our Employment group ran the first of our 2018 Conferences from the Madejski Stadium, Reading back in May to a huge turnout of local HR and business leaders. Claire Taylor-Evans and I presented the legal updates focusing on sexual harassment and gender pay and how these issues are shaping and influencing our workforces and the risks employers should be aware of. We were thrilled to be joined by barrister Robin White and Jaan Madan of Mental Health First Aid England who focused on transgender law and mental health issues/wellbeing respectively. It really was a fantastic event and I thank all those who spoke, attended and participated.

Out next Conference in September, in London, moves from Diversity and Inclusivity to discuss the interesting topic of “Making Work, Work”. Sounds intriguing … Watch out for invites coming your way.
Employing in a Global Market - Essential Immigration Issues for Employers.

We had fabulous feedback from our delegates on this full day course with our Business Immigration specialists  dealing with all aspects of employment related immigration. An extremely practical workshop dealing with tricky questions on expired visas and problematic right to work checks.

“I would definitely recommend this course, it gave a great insight into all immigration categories, an overview of relevant changes and practical examples and has helped me deal with lots of difficult situations.”

We are planning to run this course again later this year. Sign up here.

HR Masterclass 2018

“I have taken away lots of ideas and recommendations…” “A refresher course was very much needed!"

“An excellent introduction to HR/employment law” “Many thanks Emma, great course!”

Our 2018 Masterclass was again very well received by our delegates and just some of the positive feedback is written above. One attendee was yet to start her new job in HR but her new employer thought it would be great to get in some pre-employment training! A 2-day refresher, beginner and consolidation course is always daunting for those who have never attended an employment law training course before but we seem to have hit the right spot by mixing legal and HR best practice with case studies, quizzes and group discussions. Over the 2 days we focused on employment status, contracts and polices, disciplinaries, grievances, performance management, equal opportunities to name but a few. What sets this course apart from other updates is that is it lawyer-led and designed specifically for HR, touching on the key issues HR need to know about now and also as delegates move forward with their HR careers.

But it’s not just the attendees who learned a lot about their roles, HR practice, fair procedures and legal risks, their managers too have already noticed a difference with one commenting:

“The [attendees] really enjoyed your course and have returned feeling very enthused about employment law! They had a great couple of days.”

This is an annual course so look out for 2019 HR Masterclass invites.
