Role Description

We are currently looking for a Solicitor with 2-3 years experience to join our construction team based in Reading.

Reporting into the Head of Construction you will be responsible for handling a diverse range of tasks related to Construction and Dispute Resolution law. Your responsibilities will involve working on both contentious and non- contentious matters for our clients.

As an organisation we currently operate a hybrid working pattern and therefore the candidate will be required to attend to our office in Reading 2 days each week. 

Experience/ Attributes required

  • 2+ years PQE working within dispute resolution/ construction law.
  • Experience working on both contentious and non-contentious construction projects.
  • Knowledge of major standard form contracts, particularly JCT and NEC and experience of drafting and negotiating bespoke amendments.
  • Ability to draft and review warranties, bonds, guarantees, consultant’s appointments, novations, reliance letters.
  • Ability review construction provisions in project and development agreements.
  • Experience of adjudication and proceedings in the Technology and Construction Court.
  • Experience of advising in relation to construction project issues such as issue of pay less. notices, loss and expense claims, extension of time claims and final account disputes.
  • Some experience of professional negligence claims against construction professionals would be desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to work within a team and independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent keyboard skills plus good knowledge of Microsoft office software.
  • An ability and willingness to take an active role in business development with colleagues is essential.

Work type:

  • Managing and executing legal documentation and contracts for various construction projects.
  • Responsible for the day to day running of files subject to supervision.
  • Providing expert advice on non-contentious and contentious construction matters.
  • Assisting with dispute resolution and negotiation, where necessary.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of changes in construction law and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate within a team.
  • Conducting Legal research.
  • Contribute to the development of the Construction practice, including identifying opportunities for growth, and marketing the team's services.
