According to the Information Commissioner’s Office, organisations that export EU citizens’ personal data to the US have until the end of January 2016 to resolve the issues thrown up by the European Court’s abolition of “Safe Harbor”.

Doing nothing is not an option. But what should businesses be doing?

We shall look first at the latest developments - will there be a “Safe Harbor II”?

What steps should you take – model clauses, binding corporate rules? We will explore the options, their implications and the pitfalls and problems as well as providing guidance on what you should and (should not) do.

Secondly, a new Data Protection Regulation is being discussed and finalised to replace the existing EU Directive that gave rise to our domestic data protection legislation. We will look in detail at the current state of play – what the regulation looks like and what it means to business practices.

The main speakers from Boyes Turner are Bill Gornall-King, Mark Blunden and Sarah Williamson.
