Sophie Martin is an Associate Solicitor in Boyes Turner’s Wills, Trusts and Probate team, specialising in probate and estate administration matters. She advises clients on the administration of estates of all sizes, including complex and high-value estates involving multiple assets, business interests, investments and inheritance tax considerations.
Sophie advises executors, trustees and beneficiaries on all aspects of the estate administration process, with a particular focus on inheritance tax planning, reporting requirements and tax mitigation strategies to help ensure estates are managed as efficiently as possible.
In addition to her probate expertise, Sophie frequently advises clients on wills and lasting powers of attorney, helping individuals and families plan effectively for the future and protect their personal and financial affairs. Some of Sophie’s key cases include:
- Successful application for Grant of Representation in a case where the executor appointed in the deceased’s Will was unsuitable to act and we submitted comprehensive affidavit evidence to this effect to support our client’s application in a very complex case.
- Dealing with an estate with assets in other jurisdictions whilst navigating a potential claim against the estate under the Inheritance (Provision for Family & Dependants) Act 1975 which also involved assistance from the firm’s dispute resolution team.
- Dealing with the estate of an individual who died domiciled overseas leaving assets in multiple jurisdictions, and liaising with overseas advisors throughout to ensure UK tax and reporting requirements were dealt with efficiently.
