Nicola Patten is the Head of Risk and Compliance at Boyes Turner. Nicola works to ensure best practice and compliance across the firm as required by the SRA. Championing a culture of compliance throughout the firm and ensuring compliance with our external regulatory requirements and internal policies.
As Head of Risk and Compliance, MLRO, and MLCO, Nicola leads the firm’s regulatory strategy to ensure total compliance with SRA standards and anti-money laundering regulations. She oversees the risk management framework, AML compliance, regulatory audits and SRA code compliance and designs robust internal controls to protect the firm. Her ultimate motivator is protecting the firm’s reputation and financial integrity while enabling lawyers to deliver client work safely and efficiently. Nicola thrives on translating complex legal regulations into practical, operational processes that safeguard the business and uphold the highest standards of professional ethics.
Nicola is also a Magistrate and currently sits on the Avon and Somerset Bench.

Over this period, she has successfully designed, implemented, and audited comprehensive compliance frameworks tailored to SRA-regulated environments. Her deep expertise spans SRA compliance, anti-money laundering (AML) governance, staff training, and proactive risk management. Having navigated evolving regulatory landscapes for over a decade and a half, Nicola possesses a proven track record of identifying structural vulnerabilities, mitigating strategic risks, and fostering a strong, firm-wide culture of compliance.
