Ben Ireland is a Solicitor in Boyes Turner’s Medical Negligence team. He supports individuals and families pursuing claims arising from negligent medical care, combining specialist expertise with a clear understanding of the challenges clients face following a serious injury or adverse medical outcome. Having spent more than seven years advising on medical negligence claims from the defendant perspective before returning to represent claimants, Ben offers a unique insight into the litigation process and uses this experience to help clients navigate complex claims effectively and achieve the best possible outcomes.
Ben advises on a broad range of complex medical negligence claims involving serious, life-changing injuries across multiple clinical disciplines. His experience includes cases arising from obstetric and birth-related care, neurological and spinal injury, orthopaedic and surgical treatment, and ophthalmological injury, as well as claims involving cardiac, respiratory, oncological, urological and endocrinological care. These matters often involve significant disputes around diagnosis, treatment and long-term prognosis, requiring detailed medical evidence and careful case preparation.
Ben regularly acts on high-value claims where the impact on clients’ lives is profound and long-lasting, including cases requiring funding for ongoing care, rehabilitation and future financial security. His experience includes negotiating substantial settlements, often in excess of seven figures, ensuring that clients receive compensation that properly reflects both the severity of their injuries and their long-term needs.
Ben specialises in cases involving injuries sustained by children at birth, cauda equina syndrome, amputation, delayed cancer diagnosis, fatal injury, bowel and bladder injuries and sodium valproate syndrome. Ben has particular experience pursing claims not just against the NHS, but private healthcare providers.
Ben is respected by his clients for his compassion and professionalism as well as being commended by his opponents for his creativity and forthrightness in resolving the most challenging of cases. Ben is also experienced in representing his clients in alternative dispute resolution but where an agreed resolution has not been possible, he has taken a number of cases to Trial obtaining a successful outcome. Ultimately, Ben anticipates and appreciates his clients’ unique needs whist being committed to securing the best outcome for them.
