£127,500 compensation recovered for carpenter diagnosed with mesothelioma

Boyes Turner’s expert asbestos claims lawyers were instructed by Mr D, a carpenter who had been diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Our specialist solicitors immediately attended Mr D at his home and took a detailed statement regarding his employment history.

It was clear that Mr D had two main periods of exposure. His first main period of exposure was when he worked for a motor caravan conversion company which worked under a variety of names, including Billy Rix (Hemel Hampsted), Berkhamsted Timber Works Limited and Grand Securities Limited, cutting up sheets of asbestos. Unfortunately no insurers were found for this employer.

In addition, Mr D was exposed when he worked as a maintenance carpenter at Berkhamsted Boys’ School when he had to remove and replace asbestos ceiling tiles.

Court proceedings were issued and a date was fixed for the trial. Shortly before the trial the case was settled with Mr D recovering £127,500 in compensation.
