Asbestos related pleural thickening claim settled in just nine months

Mr F’s claim for asbestos-related diffuse pleural thickening was settled for the sum of £38,000, within nine months of him instructing Boyes Turner.

Mr F worked with asbestos for approximately six years whilst an apprentice and then qualified heating engineer in the early 1960s. He had to remove old asbestos lagging from pipes and then sweep up the mess. He had to work in poorly ventilated areas and was not provided with any form of protection. This was the only time that he worked with asbestos.

Boyes Turner managed to trace his former employer’s insurers and then to obtain a medical report from a chest physician which confirmed that Mr F had asbestos-related diffuse pleural thickening. There remains a risk that he could develop more serious asbestos-related conditions in the future.

After negotiations it was agreed that the insurers would pay Mr D the sum of £38,000 on the understanding that he could seek further compensation were his condition to deteriorate in the future.
