Compensation recovered for asbestosis claim for former plumber

Our asbestos claims team succeeded in obtaining £45,000 compensation for Mr H who developed asbestosis as a result of exposure to asbestos during his work as an industrial plumber.

From 1961 to 1969 he worked for Arthur Scull & Son Ltd and then for Drake & Scull Engineering Co Ltd (now Emcor Group UK Plc). He worked in boiler rooms alongside laggers mixing and applying asbestos. He was exposed to asbestos when he worked on projects in various building at the University of Bristol and Hinckley Point Power Station.

Mr H developed asbestosis which experts agreed was caused by asbestos exposure and was contributing 20% respiratory disability with a risk that this might worsen over time. In addition he is at risk of developing asbestos related lung cancer and mesothelioma.

The claim was settled for £45,000 by the two employers in proportion to the years of exposure on a full and final basis taking into account the future risks.
