Boyes Turner specialist industrial disease solicitors were instructed by a gentleman who had been diagnosed with mesothelioma, having been exposed to asbestos during employment with Chemical Building Products (Manufacturing) Limited.
Exposed to asbestos at work
The gentleman was employed as a labourer in the factory and one of his main jobs was to stand on a platform and tip raw asbestos into a machine which then mixed it with chemicals and poured it into tin cans for use in the building trade.
Bags of asbestos came in hessian sacks and would be cut open with a knife, causing dust and fibres to be released into the atmosphere.
Claiming for compensation
The gentleman described how he was completely covered in asbestos dust and fibres at the end of each day. He had significant exposure to asbestos as a result and sadly developed mesothelioma, from which he passed away prematurely.
Boyes Turner remained instructed by his widow following his death.
Insurers for his former employers were identified and an interim payment was made, although no formal admission was made.
Subsequently matters resolved by agreement for a six figure sum.
