Boyes Turner’s medical negligence team obtained a £92,500 compensation settlement for a 50-year-old woman following a delay in diagnosis of a substantial tear of her Achilles tendon.
Our client felt a sudden, sharp pain at the back of her ankle whilst playing squash. She went to A&E at the defendant hospital where she was diagnosed with a partial rupture of the Achilles tendon but was then sent home. Over the following months, further investigations identified that she had suffered a substantial tear of the tendon. She was advised that she should have been referred for an orthopaedic assessment on her first visit to A&E and would probably have undergone surgery. Instead, she had been discharged from hospital.
After attempts to manage her torn Achilles tendon without surgical treatment failed, our client finally underwent surgical reconstruction of the chronic rupture of the tendon, followed by urgent physiotherapy. She was left with permanent residual disability and cosmetic deformity as a result of the hospital A&E department’s negligence.
We helped our client claim compensation from the hospital. The case settled shortly after court proceedings were served on the hospital for an agreed sum of £92,500 compensation.
