£19,000 settlement for injury to spine following road traffic accident

Our personal injury claim lawyers recently settled a spinal injury claim for £19,000, out of court.

The claimant was a front seat passenger in a motor vehicle being driven by her son. They were stationary at the traffic lights, when they were hit in the rear by another vehicle. The force of the impact shunted their vehicle forward into another vehicle.

The claimant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. As a result of the impact, she hit the back of her head against the head restraint causing her injury. She immediately had pain in her neck and shortly thereafter developed a frontal headache. Paramedics arrived on the scene and took her straight to A&E.

The claimant sustained a severe cervical spine and lower back strain in the collision for which she received treatment. Following her accident the claimant relied on care and assistance provided by her family members for a period of time. She was an avid gardener and has been unable to fulfil her hobby or maintain her garden since the accident as this activity involves lots of bending and stooping which she was restricted with due to her injuries. She had to employ a gardener to assist her.

Liability was admitted from the outset as our expert road traffic accident injury lawyers were able to establish that the defendant was negligent and in breach of the Highway Code and Road Traffic Act 1988.

The claim settled out of court for £19,000.
