Nicola* is a young lady based in the north of England. Nicola was damaged at birth and suffers from cerebral palsy due to a delay in the treatment of meningitis. It wasn’t until she was much older that her mother sought our advice. Sometimes it may be difficult for a family to come to terms with the fact that they have made a claim and up until then they simply coped.
Judgment was obtained and we hope to settle the case this year. In the meantime, Ruth Meyer has been appointed as a professional Deputy. A local case manager has been appointed to coordinate therapy and look at options of accommodation to either buy or rent. It may be better to initially rent so that a suitable area can be found.
Nicola has already benefited from an interim payment so that we have been able to purchase a wonderful electric wheelchair to aid independence. Judgment has meant that we can purchase items immediately and put therapy in place rather than wait for state support. It is anticipated that the final award will be in excess of £1 million.
