Jessica Clough

Jessica Clough is a Chartered Legal Executive in Boyes Turner’s Employment team. She advises primarily employers on the full spectrum of employment law issues – from contracts, policies and HR processes to complex dismissals, redundancies and Employment Tribunal claims, delivering clear, commercially focused advice that helps clients manager risk and achieve practical outcomes. She is particularly recognised for her work on Data Subject Access Requests. 

Jessica supports HR teams, managers and business owners with day-to-day and strategic employment matters, including handling grievances and disciplinaries, managing performance and sickness issues, and navigating termination options and litigation risk. She also advises individuals on settlement agreements.

Known for her pragmatic and approachable style, Jessica focuses on giving straightforward, solution-led advice that reflects the operational pressures her clients face, helping them resolve issues efficiently while protecting their legal position.

Jessica has particular expertise acting for clients in the care sector. She works closely with Boyes Turner’s Court of Protection team to support Deputies and care providers with employment issues arising in regulated care environments, including right to work compliance, drafting and reviewing contracts and policies, and dealing with sensitive staff and safeguarding concerns. By combining employment and immigration expertise with a strong understanding of the operational and legal pressures facing the sector, Jessica provides practical and tailored support and advice that helps clients manage workforce risk effectively.

Jessica specialises in advising on complex Data Subject Access Requests, many of which are brought by current or former employees in the context of, or in preparation for, Employment Tribunal claims. She provides end-to-end support, from scoping and responding to DSARs through to dealing with any follow-on ICO complaints. She uses specialist software and tools to streamline the review and redaction process, helping clients meet their obligations efficiently while protecting confidential and legally privileged information.

In addition to her employment practice, Jessica advises organisations on a range of business immigration and sponsorship issues, including Sponsor Licence applications, Skilled Worker visas and right to work compliance. She helps employers navigate fast-changing immigration rules and Home Office requirements, ensuring they remain compliant whilst meeting their recruitment and resourcing needs.

Jessica assisted in the reported equal pay case of Butt –v- Reading Borough Council [2020] EWCA Civ 1642 at the Court of Appeal (Civil Division), a significant group claim concerning equal pay rights. Her involvement in this complex and high-profile matter reflects her experience in technically challenging employment disputes and large-scale group claims.
