Emma Trevett

Emma Trevett is an experienced Associate-Solicitor in Boyes Turner’s Court of Protection, Community Care, and Special Educational Needs teams. Drawing on her expertise across both Community Care and SEN law, Emma provides holistic legal advice to disabled children, adults and their families, helping them navigate complex issues relating to education, care, support and access to services

Emma provides expert advice, simplifies complex legal issues for clear understanding, and builds strong working relationships with clients. Emma is experienced in providing representation to lay clients and Professional Deputies in relation to a vast array of education, health, social care and mental capacity issues.

Her work includes advising on disputes relating to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), specialist school placements, social care assessments, care funding, mental capacity and welfare decisions, as well as applications and proceedings before the Court of Protection. Emma works closely with families, professionals and deputies to help coordinate appropriate support packages and secure access to the education, care and services individuals require. She takes a practical and collaborative approach, helping clients navigate complex systems and ensuring their rights and long-term needs remain at the centre of decision-making.

Emma has a particular interest in cases involving the transition from childhood to adulthood for young people with disabilities and additional needs. She supports families in securing appropriate education, health and social care provision during this critical stage, helping to ensure continuity of support and access to the services required to promote independence, wellbeing and long-term quality of life.

During the pandemic, she co-edited an anthology of poetry on how the COVID-19 crisis had affected legal aid lawyers and the provision of advice and advocacy. All proceeds were donated to the Law Centres Network to continue their work upholding justice and advancing equality for local people and communities.

Following a stroke in 2020, Emma gained personal experience of navigating life as a disabled individual, which brings valuable insight, empathy and understanding to her work with clients and their families. Her lived experience helps inform her approach to advising on disability-related matters, and she is passionate about promoting greater inclusion and diversity within the legal profession.
