As Head of Boyes Turner’s Leisure & Hospitality group, Helen works closely with businesses operating across the leisure and hospitality sectors, advising on the unique workforce and operational challenges faced by employers in fast-paced and customer-focused environments. She supports clients on a wide range of employment and HR matters including workforce management, restructuring projects, employee relations issues, senior exits, compliance and complex Employment Tribunal claims.

Helen understands the commercial pressures affecting businesses within the sector, including recruitment and retention challenges, seasonal workforce demands, reputational considerations and evolving employment legislation. Her sector-focused approach enables her to provide commercially practical and responsive advice tailored to the operational realities of hospitality and leisure businesses, helping clients manage risk effectively while maintaining business continuity and positive workplace cultures.

Helen specialises in complex discrimination and whistleblowing cases, business protection issues and change management involving redundancy programmes and TUPE transactions. Helen also leads a team managing workplace investigations.

Helen acted for Serco in the landmark House of Lords case of Lawson v Serco, a significant employment law decision concerning the employment rights of employees working overseas. The case established important legal principles regarding the application of UK employment law in cross-border employment matters and remains a leading authority in this area. Her involvement reflects her expertise in handling complex and strategically significant employment disputes involving international workforce issues.

She has been ranked as “an expert” and “leader in her field” for the last 20 years in Chambers and The Legal 500.

She is also an experienced workplace investigator, mediator and executive coach.

  • Collective grievance in a hospitality business in relation to fairness of the distribution of the tronc brought by over 100 employees across 4 subsidiary companies in group
  • Complex grievance in public sector organisation involving allegations of sexism, race discrimination and bullying at a senior level with over 28 people interviewed and detailed report.
  • TUPE advice on sale of part of a business involving over 300 employees and related information and consultation obligations.
  • Acting for global tech company in respect of tribunal claim involving allegations of whistleblowing and discrimination.
  • Removal of director and shareholder from a business involving complex issues around breach of good faith, shareholding and incentivisation schemes and business protection breaches.
