£65,000 compensation recovered after hospital fail to prevent pressure sores

Boyes Turner obtained a compensation settlement of £65,000 for a client who developed pressure sores on her buttocks and the lower part of her spine whilst in hospital with paralysis in her hands and legs from transverse myelitis.

Following the development of the pressure sores, our client needed frequent assessments by tissue viability nurses during her three-month stay in the hospital. Her sores required redressing regularly. The sores healed eventually but our client has continued discomfort at the site of the pressure sores, and occasionally needs pain relief.

We pursued our client’s claim for compensation against the defendant hospital on the basis that her injury was caused by their failure to carry out a proper risk assessment, nurse her on a pressure-relieving mattress and ensure she was routinely repositioned. The hospital admitted responsibility for our client’s injury. The case settled out of court with a compensation payment of £65,000.
