What are defective product injury claims?
Defective product injury claims, or personal injury claims arising from product liability, compensate people who have been injured as a result of faulty or defective equipment.
The law gives consumers (users) of manufactured products and employees the right to expect products and equipment to be safe to use and fit for their purpose, through various statutes, including the Consumer Protection Act 1987, the Consumer Rights Act, 2015, the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and the Employers Liability (Defective Equipment) Act 1969.
When someone is injured as a result of a faulty or defective product or equipment, depending on the circumstances of the accident or injury, the injured person may be able to claim compensation from the manufacturer of the faulty product, or against whoever was responsible for supplying, installing or maintaining the equipment, such as a landlord, retailer, holiday rental company or employer.
