The introduction of ‘no fault divorce’ on 6 April 2022 is the biggest change in family law in a generation. Responding to the legal change, the family law team at Boyes Turner is launching a pioneering service enabling a couple to use one lawyer between them and move away from the adversarial approach of traditional divorces.

We are among the first law firms in the country to offer this type of service, which will save couples time and money, avoid conflict and minimise the negative effect of separation on families.

Paul Linsell, head of family team, said:

“The impact of divorce or separation is widely felt; by the couple involved, their children, their wider families and their social circles. It will often permeate through every part of their lives and is one of the most stressful life events it is possible to experience. Sadly, the law and the framework in which the law operates had historically done little to help alleviate the strain. This simply isn’t good enough.

The introduction of No Fault Divorce is a monumental step forward for family law in this country. The aim of the new law is to help divorcing couples to separate in a more straightforward manner and without apportioning fault for the relationship breakdown. The hope is that this will end the ‘blame game’ and lead to better outcomes for the families involved; minimising the negative impacts on all involved.”

Our new suite of services includes a new assessment and information meeting where a specially trained family solicitor helps the couple to actively plan their separation, empowering them to move forward positively.

A pioneering One Lawyer Support service will see a solicitor guide the couple through a conflict free process, ensuring that everything is formalised correctly.

Finally, an early neutral evaluation service offers couples an expert appraisal of their circumstances to help resolve disputes without the need to go to court.

Paul Linsell added:

“I wholeheartedly endorse the changes in the law, but while these should be welcomed the reality is that this is just the beginning of reshaping the way people experience divorce and separation. There is still much more to be done.

At Boyes Turner we believe in pioneering new ways of assisting people with our legal expertise and finding the right solutions for them rather than a one size fits all approach. I am excited to announce that we are introducing new family law services for couples to help drive changes for all who are experiencing a relationship breakdown or divorce. In addition to our existing services, we will now be offering a range of new joint services that allow a couple to benefit from our expertise together. We will help design a bespoke process for them and assist them from start to finish in all that they need to do as part of their divorce or separation. Whether they are very amicable or are finding things harder, we will be able to ensure that they get the support they deserve and to navigate their way through their divorce or separation to the best outcomes for them.”
