Role Description

We have a great opportunity for a Paralegal to join our fast paced but friendly Special Educational Needs team based in Reading.  This position is being offered on a permanent basis  5 days each week, however for the right candidate we are happy to consider part time hours over 5 days.

Reporting into the Special Educational Needs Partner you will be responsible for engaging in fee earner activities and providing an effective support service to the wider team.


Experience/ Attributes required

  • Experience working within a legal environment
  • Ability to work unsupervised within scope of instructions/protocols from senior fee earners
  •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  •  Good customer service skills


  •   Good interpersonal skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
  •  Excellent IT skills plus good knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Excel spreadsheets)
  • An interest in SEN, however experience working within this area is highly desirable

Work type:

  •  Dealing with new enquiries
  •   Client finance management and monitoring budgets
  • Management of experts’ fees
  • Maintain databases and client records
  •  Assist with marketing events to help promote Boyes Turner as a brand
  • Make calls out to clients and third parties on behalf of and at the direction of senior fee earners
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, schools, and Tribunal
  • Request SAR records from school and LA
  •  Draft court forms
  • Prepare bundles
  • Draft Grounds of Appeal
  •   Proof EHCPs and prepare Working Documents
  •   Research, contact and arrange assessments with experts
  •   Steps following registration of appeals
  •  Draft letters to clients, schools, and letters of instruction to experts
  •  Create schedule of documents for appeal and/or experts
  • Write articles for company website
  •   Assist with research as required
  •  Ensure work is maintained at a high level of quality throughout to promote the reputation of the firm
