Role Description

This is a great opportunity for a Paralegal/ Legal Assistant to join a fast paced but friendly Special Educational Needs team based in Reading.  This position is being offered on a 9-12 months FTC based on 4 days a week. Reporting into the Special Educational Needs Partner you will be responsible for providing an effective support service to fee earners and administrative duties to the wider team.

Experience/ Attributes required

  • Experience working within a legal environment
  • Ability to work unsupervised within scope of instructions/protocols from senior fee earners
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
  • Excellent IT skills plus good knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Excel spreadsheets)
  • An interest in SEN, however experience working within this area is highly desirable

Work type:

  • Routine administrative tasks such as drafting court forms and grounds of appeal, drafting letters to clients, schools, and letters of instruction to experts and preparing court bundles etc
  • Make calls out to clients and third parties on behalf of and at the direction of senior fee earners
  • Diary management
  • Open and closure of new client files
  •  Client finance management and monitoring budgets
  • Management of experts’ fees
  • Maintain databases and client records

  • Request SAR records from school and LA
  •  Proof EHCPs
  • Research, contact and arrange assessments with experts
  • Steps following registration of appeals
  • Create schedule of documents for appeal and/or experts
  • Write articles for company website and assist with marketing events
  • Assist with research as required
  •  Ensure work is maintained at a high level of quality throughout to promote the reputation of the firm
