Role Description
This is a great opportunity for an ambitious Construction Solicitor/ Legal Executive to join a fast paced but friendly team based in Reading and to build the firm’s non-contentious construction services which supplement the firm’s leading Real Estate Team and Development & House Building Team (Tier 1 - Legal 500).
The ideal candidate for this role will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working on non-contentious construction work. You will be confident, organised, proactive and, most importantly, a team player. The ideal candidate will be expected to play a key role in business development activities and therefore strong client relationship management experience is key.
This opportunity is also available on a part-time basis with hybrid working arrangements on offer.
Experience/ Attributes required
- Over 5 years’ experience of non-contentious construction work
- Excellent knowledge of all major standard form contracts, particularly JCT and NEC and experience of drafting and negotiating bespoke amendments
- Experience of reviewing and advising on consultant’s appointments (both standard form and bespoke), collateral warranties and deeds of novation
- Ability to draft and review development agreements, licences for alterations and pre-let agreements with works obligations
- Knowledge of UK procurement legislation as applicable to construction and land development contracts would be a plus
- Experience within business development activities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Work effectively as part of a team as well as working unsupervised
Work type:
- Building and growing the firm’s non-contentious construction practice, providing support to the firm’s Property teams
- Working in conjunction with the firm’s Construction Disputes team to target new opportunities
- Maintaining a professional and proactive presence with both internal and external contacts
