Role Description

This is a great opportunity to join a forward-thinking, innovative, and friendly team based in Reading.  Reporting into the Family Partner, you will be responsible for managing your own client base as well as supporting on complex cases. The role is in an exciting and growing team, in an established, modern, full-service law firm. The firm is known for offering high quality legal work and providing a supportive working environment that invests in people and their development.

The role is for a solicitor with experience between 3-7 years PQE, however you must be business development focused and entrepreneurial with an ambition to help build and develop the Family Law team. A passion for family law and a desire to do things ‘the right way’ is a must.


As a firm we have adopted a hybrid working pattern, therefore the candidate will be expected to work in the office 2 days each week.

Experience/ Attributes required

Essential Skills:

  •  In excess of 3+ years experience in family law
  •  Should be working for a firm known for its family law work with high net worth clients.
  •  Membership of Resolution
  •  Excellent record of client service
  •  Ability to supervise more junior members of the team
  • The ability to work independently, without close supervision, as well as part of a team.
  •  The ability to consistently meet deadlines and to manage competing priorities
  • Proficiency within MS Office and Outlook
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  •   Carry out BD activities to generate growth, with an entrepreneurial flair
  •  Possess first-class communication and interpersonal skills
  •  Experience of working with case management systems
  •  Ambitious and with a passion for modernising the approach to family law


Desirable Skills

  • Mediation or collaboratively trained is not essential but advantageous
  •  A transferable client base is not essential but advantageous

Work type:

Although this opportunity will be based around an individual’s own specialist areas within family law, they will also be expected to have a broad knowledge across all areas of private Family Law matters including:

  •  Divorce and separation
  • Financial Matters
  •  Children Matters
  •  Pro-active family agreements including nuptial and cohabitation agreements
